When Dreams Take Flight - Dilworth & Dunbar
Governor's School West - 2024 - 61st Session. I'll keep this bookmarked for when I'm feeling Nostalgic.
I repeat listen to this beautiful piece and superlative rendition. Thank you singers and Allen Hightower!
Glorious.
Magical! Just gorgeous voices singing challenging harmonies. I had the chance to learn and perform this music with our local chorale before the pandemic! Britton's festival has become a favorite and was the last performance I was able to participate. Thank you for sharing this sublime performance! Merry Christmas always and forever! ❤🕊️
✝️. The only stamp of approval one will ever need.
2:14
Every time I listen to this recording I feel the same: an overwhelming with the meaning and the beauty of this song and performance. Thank you
Love this! Our high school choir sang this version many years ago 😊😊
It's a few more months since I wrote some words some three months ago. The sense of both grief and determination to do this carol - somehow - remains intact and I remain that resolute to do so! I hope that I get to do it! God willing I will!
We sang in Vermont All State Choir in 1988 ❤😊
it,s not boys though, not the same though this group are very good.
one of my all time favorite hyms I sang this for my foster mother's funeral
Marvelous!
Very nice indeed!
I've listened to the King's Singers version of this so many times I've forgotten how it sounds with a full choir. Props!
The lyrics are from George MacDonald's "Diary of an Old Soul" (the numbers indicate the date of the entry) Jan 11. I thought that I had lost thee; but, behold! Thou comest to me from the horizon low, Across the fields outspread of green and gold-- Fair carpet for thy feet to come and go. Whence I know not, or how to me thou art come!-- Not less my spirit with calm bliss doth glow, Meeting thee only thus, in nature vague and dumb. Jan 5. Thy fishes breathe but where thy waters roll; Thy birds fly but within thy airy sea; My soul breathes only in thy infinite soul; I breathe, I think, I love, I live but thee. Oh breathe, oh think,--O Love, live into me; Unworthy is my life till all divine, Till thou see in me only what is thine. Jan 6. Then shall I breathe in sweetest sharing, then Think in harmonious consort with my kin; Then shall I love well all my [earthly friends], Feel one with theirs the life my heart within. Oh brothers! sisters holy! hearts divine! Then I shall be all yours, and nothing mine-- To every human heart a mother-twin. Amen, amen…
I thought this would be for the one piece song lol
Wonderful. A proper bonnie song!!!
BEAUTIFUL !!! listen
Simply wonderful... thank you for sharing.
I love everything Thompson wrote. Lovely singing. I have used this piece as well as others of his throughout my career, which has been varied and kind of amazing.
That’s the prettiest choir I ever heard. 😇
Long live Manitowocs finest 😘
outstanding... MN continues its tradition of choral music - so many good choirs!
Merci a vous 🎶🎈🎶jañine
Great dynamic control. But terrible phrasing, sustain begging for more, and way too mechanical sounding, this song should not be performed in strict meter, it needs copious amounts of rubato. Where are these folks, let me direct them
My criticisms are actually for the director; the choir is fine.
When I was in my first year of the SFYCA for the Oregon Bach Festival, we performed this song, and it's always given me chills, and just an indescribable amount of joy :)
Superb. Wow.
Beautiful ❤
They sound good but this is a negro spiritual. Pass
Very nice sound.
Thank you for your beautiful share here. Tears of joy flow while memories of my daughter's voice joining in with dozens of others at UCONN's high school regional performance remind us of how precious our youths are in each family and community. (2001winter - this song and 4 more)
It is difficult as a singer to find the balance between feeling emotion and effectively conveying that emotion to the audience. It is truly an art and a labor of love to find that place.
😊😊😊😊😊😊
It is 10:02am. Brings my heart and soul to our savior and our God Jesus Christ 3:07 ❤
So bizarre to see this song institutionalized. We used to believe in the words when we sang it.
We should give William Shakespeare credit for writing this.
I really enjoyed this. I grew up in Jasper thru the 70's. I spent a lot of time in Luverne I always loved that town. I had a lot of relatives that lived there. Most of them are gone now and their children never stayed around. I still pass thru once in a great while; the great memories always come flooding back. Luverne is a true gem.
BEAUTIFUL! JUST BEAUTIFUL! Love how the soloist just blended so perfectly… WOW!
Breath taking with stunning intonation and articulation...
Great Job ! Thank you all the practice and polish !!!
All versions I've heard of this poem are played this way (that is to say in choral accompaniment and at a very slow pace) is there a reason for that? I apologize for my ignorance in advance, its one of my favorite poems. I just want to know if there's some hint in the rhyme scheme that clues you in to how it should be preformed. Such as how iambic pentameter is used in Shakespeare.
You didn’t clap at the end.
I believe there were multiple songs in the set and the audience was asked to hold their applause til the end.
@@maestroz25 That’s not what I’m talking about.
Choir directors do their own thing. It's not written in stone that there *must* be clapping at the end.
Morten is pure genius....
Excellent
I was supposed to sing this song for my choir festival in washington dc, we ended up not singing it because something wasn’t clicking. The whole choir even our director agrees to this song being easy to learn. The thing that wasn’t clicking was the meaning of this song, we all just thought that there was no meaning to this song, our director said to find what this song means to you and find it in your heart. People tried but the rest of the choir didn’t care to. Also my director had personal problems with his personal life and it felt so right to sing this piece even more! This song is so beautiful and I love it, i hope i can sing it one more time.
Written by my Grandfather. He did some wonderful arrangements.
I wonder if Dolly ever imagined this song would become an anthem sung by every church choir and coral group worldwide?
Angelic.
Paul.... wow! Love to see you expressing your natural talent so enthusiastically! I look forward to your future endeavors.
